Fortis Digital Solutions has partnered with Paymob to integrate its SmartPOS software directly onto Paymob’s payment terminals in the UAE, the companies announced on 8 September 2026. The integration turns existing terminals into fuller point-of-sale systems, adding order management, customer profiles, loyalty programmes, daily sales tracking and inventory visibility on top of payment acceptance.
How merchants get it
New Paymob customers can activate SmartPOS during onboarding, while existing merchants can install it remotely on their current terminals without replacing any hardware. The platform gives merchants real-time business intelligence across sales, orders and inventory from the same device they already use to take payments.

Sandeep Gomes, managing director at Fortis, said:
“Many SMEs recognise the value of digitising their operations, but complexity often stands in the way. By bringing Fortis SmartPOS to Paymob devices, we make adoption easier without a complete system overhaul.”

Nour Abdelmotteleb, head of partnerships at Paymob, said:
“Payments are just one part of running a successful business. Merchants already trust Paymob, and with Fortis, we’re helping them go beyond acceptance and take greater control of their operations.”
Why it matters
For UAE SME digitisation
Many small merchants already accept card payments but manage inventory, loyalty and sales tracking through separate, disconnected tools, or not at all. Bundling those functions into the same terminal already sitting at the till lowers the practical barrier to adopting them, since there’s no new device to buy or separate system to learn.
For Paymob’s positioning against payments-only competitors
Paymob competing on business tools rather than payment acceptance alone reflects a broader shift among UAE payment providers toward bundling software features onto existing hardware, rather than differentiating purely on processing fees or acceptance methods. A recent survey cited alongside the announcement found 92% of UAE SMEs now accept digital payment solutions, meaning the competitive question for providers is increasingly what sits on top of acceptance, not whether a merchant takes cards at all.
This is also not Fortis’s only payments-processor integration. The company has a separate, existing partnership with Network International, meaning SmartPOS is designed to run across more than one UAE payments processor rather than being built exclusively for Paymob’s terminals.
What’s next
Neither Fortis nor Paymob has disclosed adoption numbers since launch, a specific timeline for expanding SmartPOS to other markets Paymob serves, or pricing details for merchants considering the upgrade. Whether SmartPOS adoption actually moves the needle on Paymob’s own merchant retention is the more concrete thing to track once usage data exists.
